Melbourne Cup is a day of fashion, champagne and horses, but the winning bet this year proved to be so much more.
On Tuesday 6th November 80 professional like-minded women came together for a good cause, The Starlight Children’s Foundation. A mix of a Melbourne Cup ladies luncheon and a charity proved a great combination.
The day was hosted by Kerry Johnston, a Starlight Children’s Foundation Starbassador and wishgranter. The aim of the day was to raise awareness of the foundation and their Wishgranting Program whilst enjoying fine food, champagne, fashion and the races.
European Caterers provided a beautiful three course meal of ‘Black Caviar’, entree of prawn & noodle salad and mains of barramundi or pistachio encrusted rack of lamb. Dessert was a tower of champagne cupcakes provided by Blue Spoon Dreams.
Whilst the women enjoyed their meal, Starlight representatives highlighted the Wishgranting Program for seriously ill children and their families.
“Every minute of everyday a child is admitted into hospital across Australia. For some the diagnosis is life changing. The Wishgranting Program provides a positive experience during treatment and respite as well as enhancing their healing process”. Nicky from Starlight gave us a visual insight into the programs for seriously ill children and how financial help is desperately needed to cover over 700 wishes that are on their list.
The generosity of donations of goods and services to the day enabled money to be raised through gift balloons, raffle and silent auctions that included a beautiful Zafino Laptop Bag range and Voucher from ByAriane. Her range was exquisite and on display. Many women on the day were interested in Ariane’s products. “It was wonderful to be a supporter of the luncheon for Starlight. Its such a worthy charity that does great programs for seriously ill children” says Ariane.
Through these donations Kerry reached beyond her target, raising $9000 on the day.
“This will provide two wishes and I am excited about the generous support I received from the local community and the guests here today”.
Fashions were also a hit on the day with a fashion parade provided by Belinda of Double Bay. The ‘in’ garment for the season appears to be the pantsuit which was paraded around the room by beautiful models who also adorned hats and fascinators from Embellish. The guests also looked fabulous with the best dressed going to a gorgeous white dress with a long black zipper to the back with a black and white stylish fascinator by David Jones. Ariane May from ByAriane was runner up dressed beautifully in a black chiffon dress designed by herself with a touch of yellow in her fascinator, bag and shoes.
The fashions, the prizes, the food and the race made this an event to remember not only for the ladies but also for the children that will benefit from the funds raised. Kerry says “with the money through Starlight I personally can fulfil wishes such as room makeovers and ipads to holidays and meeting celebrities. It will give these kids hope and lift their spirits. I thank everyone that has been involved in this fundraiser”.
And so another wish comes true for a wish child, Starlight and their worthy cause.
