Probably as much as I know about cricket. Nothing! But it doesn’t matter. Whilst I have no idea of the difference between leg stump and a sticky wicket, I do know that Steve’s charity, the Steve Waugh foundation, does incredible work to help children with rare diseases. In May of this year By Ariane was asked to run a fashion show to help to raise money for the children of the foundation. It was a very moving day. And busy. 80 women, Steve and Lynette Waugh, 5 models, 45 outfits, 3 shopping stations to man. Pheww!
In amongst the hullabaloo of my models and their dressers, I tried to compose myself to present the designers as best I could. Some I’ve worked with for years like Bellamay, Zafino and Sarar. Whilst others have recently joined our ‘By Ariane family’ such as the seductive shoes of Jaspa King, spectacular gowns by Elle Zeitoune and Honey & Beau’s sassy collection.
The highlight of the show was the grand finale by Style By Wesson – a new and exciting collaboration with By Ariane. This collection featured gowns by Valentino, Cavalli and Missoni for the audience to see and of course buy. Sighs, and moans of desire literally filled the room as dress after beautiful dress came and left the cat walk.
For me though, I loved the part where I could relax and not have to speak. I had asked our luxury HandKnit designer Danielle Chiel to come and present. I smiled as spellbound she led the audience into a nostalgic journey of opening that first gift of a treasured jumper. You could have heard a pin drop as I watched the ladies remember the wrapping paper, the feel of the wool and the texture of the stitching underhand. Then of course the place fell into laughter when she reminded us all and said “Perhaps you didn’t even like it” and suddenly we all recalled jumpers with one arm shorter than the other and the hole we couldn’t get our head through. No wonder, she likes to sell her jumpers bespoke!
It’s funny when you spend so much time looking at a computer screen every day, and see these frocks hanging in despatch, it is almost too easy to forget how beautiful they are. Seeing these items bought to life was a massive tonic for me and it really bought my business back to life. Bellamay frocks dressed up, dressed down, flat heels and scarf, I’ve always loved them. Zafino bags, I am so used to now, and my ears pricked up to hear the delight from ladies seeing stylish laptop and mobile office bags for the first time. I’ll never forget that surge of energy when I said let’s go shopping and they did!
A heartfelt thanks to Kerry Johnston for organising the event and including By Ariane. I am proud to say we played our part in raising a massive $55,000 for the foundation.
